三所大学的面试都感觉良好，其中一所大学的教授在我临走时说，虽然还要经过系里最后做决定，但我可以现在就告诉你，基本可以说你被录取了。
我在一个北方城市暂时住下来，静候回音。然而两三个月过去了，音讯皆无。每次给那位当时很肯定我被录取的教授打电话，他都支支吾吾，顾左右而言他。直到最后一次退无可退，他才问了这么一句话：你在那所大学的博士指导教师，是给你写推荐信的那谁吗？
我说不是。但直到此时，我才终于明白，得罪了一位美国教授的可怕后果。
